The name of this show is just a tease. Even by 1934 standards, this cliche-filled community theater favorite, fashioned by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse from P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton’s original book, was hardly daring. And it seems all the less so 81 years later, though the version Marriott has chosen to revive—Timothy Crouse and John Weidman’s 1987 updating of the 1934 book—does contain a few off-color jokes. Still, one goes to see a Cole Porter show for the songs, and director-choreographer Marc Robin has filled his production with top-notch performers who do their best to make the proceedings as entertaining as possible. And the score is performed with Marriott's trademark polish, though those hoping for new tricks from these old tunes ("You're the Top," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "I Get a Kick Out of You," etc) will be disappointed. —Jack Helbig
