Anna M.

A bookish young Parisian (Isabelle Carré of Entre Ses Mains) attempts suicide and during her recovery becomes enamored of her surgeon (Gilbert Melki of Intimate Strangers), a happily married man whose decency and professionalism are no match for her obsession. As the lonely introvert, Carré gives an unforgettable performance, running the gamut from depression to delusion, heartbreak, and murderous rage as she becomes an unusually resourceful stalker. Writer-director Michel Spinosa is sparing in his use of camera tricks, escalating tension through small details; madness in movies is rarely this creepy, or entertaining. 102 min.
