Andrew W.K., Math the Band, Aleister X 18+ Early Warnings (Music) Recommended The List (Music) Soundboard

When: Sun., March 25, 7:30 p.m. 2012
Since Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier—better known as patron saint of partying hard Andrew W.K.—dropped I Get Wet in 2001, he's enjoyed one of the oddest pop careers in recent memory. So far it's included doing a stint as a motivational speaker; releasing seriously eccentric albums like 2009's 55 Cadillac, which is basically a collection of improvised piano noodlings; hosting Destroy Build Destroy, a Cartoon Network show where two teams of kids compete by building absurd machines and the winners demolish the losing contraption; cofounding Santos Party House, one of NYC's most popular new nightclubs; and producing an album by reggae legend Lee "Scratch" Perry. (He also tweets like nobody's business, which is a good way to find out what he's going to get up to next.) Plenty of the music Andrew W.K. has made over that decade is great, but his major-label debut remains his high-water mark. The passionate, bombastic, and sincerely unironic I Get Wet rescued the heavy side of pop from angsty nu-metal with its single-minded, jubilant message. This slightly belated tenth-anniversary tour is a reminder that even in these troubled times, sometimes partying really will help. —Leor Galil
