Re: “Bandera

One of the worst experiences in recent dining history for us. First the waiter, who must have been joking, asked who was up for tequilla. A friend who enjoys sipping tequilla, got excited and asked what they had. He said Cuervo Gold only. (so why offer it as if you have an extensive tequilla menu?) He was trying to be funny and just got more obnoxious.
He couldn't identify one vegitarian meal on the menu. When we finally asked if the vegi burger was vegitarian, he answered, "Well yeah, but that's a sandwich, this is dinner." (even though it was clearly on the dinner menu). Same response to the artichoke appetizer. It seemed he wouldn't recommend something unless it was at full entre prices.
I ordered an extra dirty vodka martini. I couldn't taste any olive juice and politely asked if I could send it back to be made a little bit dirtier. It came back and it was obvious the bartender was insulted and had then given me something close to straight olive juice.
The mushroom ragout came to the table cold. The potatoes and crouton were warm, but the ragout was as cold as if it had been in a refrigerator.
Also, we were disappointed with the atmosphere. I was hoping to take some out of town guests to a nice late dinner and the place was full of loud high school prom groups and drunk 20-somethings.
Bandera was an old favorite that I always recommended to friends. Unfortunately, my last two experiences have been bad and will probably not go back and will definitely not recommend it again.

Re: “Mia Francesca

Service and value were all quite good. Although I enjoyed me food, preparation is quite typical. My biggest complaint is the crowd and noise. The wait for a table is very uncomfortable. Crowded, constantly moving for waiters and busboys... can't be nice for the diners who are being bumped into. The noise level was so high that I could only speak to the person directly next to me and even then I had to shout. Service was VERY efficient. Luckily we were cutting it close to the start of the play we were going to, so a 45 minute dinner was ok with us, but it might have seemed rushed to someone else.

This was one of the best dining experience I have ever had in Chicago. The food was outstanding. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Very conversation friendly. The service was so attentive and friendly. I can't ever remember feeling so comfortable in a restaurant in Chicago. I just wish it was closer to home. My new favorite!

Re: “Spiaggia

The dining room is absolutely beautiful. Service was outstanding and the food unbelievable. The $480 bill did include 2 bottles of wine... and was subsidized by my $200 gift certificate from The Reader! (thank you!) It was a complete dining experience.

Re: “312 Chicago

Moderately priced and a decent selection for pre-theater.
