Sandwiches on house-made bread from a Kendall College grad.

Our Review

Just about everything at Andorka's Sandwich Shop is homemade, or at least feels that way. Owner Matt Andorka's family and friends helped finance the renovations and kitchen equipment through a Kickstarter campaign, and Andorka himself works behind the counter assembling sandwiches from the bread and condiments he makes on-site. Even the potato chips are fried to order. The space itself feels like it's been transported from a small college town: it's small, furnished with a few tables, a shabby old couch, a piano, and a gas fireplace. Andorka, a Kendall College grad who's previously worked at Reno and Browntrout, keeps the menu simple. There are just eight sandwiches and a pair of salads. But they're good sandwiches: the flavors balance nicely, the bread doesn't fall apart. If you'd really like a change of pace from Potbelly or Jimmy John's, try the goat, which is braised and tender, not gristly like some goat tends to be, and topped with stewed tomatoes and poblano sour cream. But the real standout here are the chips. You have a choice of five homemade dips (including mayo, green goddess, and honey butter), but it takes just a sprinkle of malt vinegar to really make them sing.
