To the editors:

The [August 2] article by Adam Langer ("No Comment: The Search for Intelligent Life at Great America") brought back memories of my short stint at Disney World in 1978. The atmosphere was definitely conservative (hair cut above the ears, no facial hair, etc) yet the employees did have real spunk to them. We were called "characters"; even those of us who had such tasks as making popcorn. Apparently several of the employees were fired for taking unauthorized photographs of the empty costumes of Mickey Mouse and others in the subterranean passages of the Magic Kingdom. I guess it's not unusual for management to have no sense of humor. Maybe the problem at Great America is that everyone takes themselves a little too seriously.
