Len Jenkin's 1988 play is a kind of anti-Our Town. The weird backwater in which it's set is a little surreal and a lot seedy, populated by nighthawks, drifters, pimps, and hucksters. There's no plot to speak of--just fragments of narrative amounting to a collage of desperate need and dereliction. That's how it's written, anyway. Director Corri Feuerstein and the cast of this Will Act for Food production de-emphasize the lurid aspects of the script, playing it instead as a cute and quirky comedy about lonesome losers of the night. This allows for some nice character work--especially from Scott Pasko and Devon Carson as an insomniac motel guest and the wholesome night clerk he halfheartedly woos--but the staging is at odds with the text. –Zac Thompson
