This well-meaning issue drama (2005) by Aric Avelino weaves together three separate narratives about gun violence but fails to bring any of them to a satisfying conclusion. The most engrossing features Marcia Gay Harden as a mother trying to rebuild her life in a small Oregon town three years after her son carried out a Columbine-style massacre. The second involves a principal (Forest Whitaker) whose dedication to an inner-city Chicago high school leaves him no time to care for his young son, and in the third and least compelling, a kindly Virginia gun merchant (Donald Sutherland) worries about his morose teenage granddaughter (Linda Cardellini). Various subplots contribute to the overstuffed narrative. With Tony Goldwyn, Chris Marquette, Nikki Reed, and Arlen Escarpeta. R, 95 min.
