Documentary
In the 2007 documentary America the Beautiful, Darryl Roberts took on the sprawling multi-billion-dollar beauty industry. For this sequel he narrows his focus to our love-hate relationship with food, but his investigation of epidemic obesity, eating disorders, and fad diets is strictly lite. In a segment about Cousin's, a raw-food emporium in Chicago that has since closed, he follows a no-cooking diet, but only to set up shtick about how foul the cuisine is; he never challenges the claim that such diets protect one from all disease. Self-promoting physicians, shrinks, bureaucrats, and fashion models blather on about eating issues, yet Roberts glosses over the only real solution to weight gain: balanced nutrition combined with exercise, a two-step commitment requiring moderation and, above all, time.
