All About Steve

Packaged as a romantic comedy but devoid of comedy or romance, this baffling train wreck stars Sandra Bullock as a tediously kooky constructor of crossword puzzles for a Sacramento newspaper. Socially isolated by her motor-mouth and her huge vocabulary, she falls hard for cable news cameraman Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) after a single, disastrous blind date, then stalks him all over creation as he moves from one pseudo-satirical tabloid story to the next. Director Phil Traill and screenwriter Kim Barker (License to Wed) clearly have no idea how sad and creepy their material is; a segment about the public outcry against the proposed amputation of a newborn baby’s third leg seems to be saying something about abortion—but what? PG-13.
