The 17th annual African/Caribbean International Festival of Life runs Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, and presents reggae, gospel, soca, calypso, and more on two stages in Washington Park (there are two entrances on Cottage Grove, one at 55th and the other near 54th, and a third on Payne Drive near the northeast corner of the park). Notable performers on the International Stage include soca singer and producer Machel Montano, reggae vocalist Gregory Isaacs, Oscar B (former lead singer of venerable Jamaican ska, calypso, and soca band Byron Lee & the Dragonaires), Brigadier Jerry, Gramps Morgan, Slique, and Boukman Eksperyans. The festival also features dozens of vendors selling international food, arts, and crafts. Tickets are $15 for adults ($10 in advance through Ticketmaster), $5 for seniors and kids 7 through 12; children 6 and under get in free.
