Advice for the Younger Generation

To the editors:

The ongoing discussion in your letters column between the 60s generation and the post-baby boomers has prompted me to offer this advice to my fellow post-boomers.

We must concede that our membership has been somewhat lackluster in its social awareness, activism, and advocacy.

We must also admit to being at least somewhat envious of our elders who moved for the important causes and partook of the hallmark events of the 60s, the memories of which, for us, are either vague or completely media-generated.

Although having the exploits of the baby boomers drummed incessantly through advertising, movies, and the self-commemorating annals of writers like Bob Greene can become wearying and irritating there is a means of dealing with this onslaught.

This is with humor and indulgence, much the same way one would handle an elderly relative who tends to drone on about the Great Depression.
