Adam

Socially isolated by Asperger’s syndrome (a variant of autism), a handsome young technology wiz (Hugh Dancy) overcomes his awkwardness to find love with the cheerful schoolteacher next door (Rose Byrne). Their relationship is complicated by his emotional deficits and her intolerant, well-heeled parents (Peter Gallagher and Amy Irving). Written and directed by Max Mayer, this anodyne romantic comedy is as predictable as the alphabet but should hold particular appeal to women whose maternal impulses inflect their mating instincts. PG-13, 99 min.
