Absolutely Not, Sueves, Baby Magic, Post Child, Boxsledder

When: Sat., Jan. 3, 10 p.m. 2015
Post Child The Ian’s Party scene often tends toward throaty, gruff-and-tumble punk-rock. That’s no secret. Then there’s Post Child, a band of dudes that’s anything but beardy pop-punk and has set out to prove one thing above all others: the 90s are back. Including members of Township regulars Wide Angles and Elephant Gun, the four-piece plays fuzzy, midtempo slacker rock brimming with fluid guitar leads and features a disinterested vocal delivery that channels the heyday of 90s alterna-grunge radio rock like Spacehog and Weezer. Basically, if I found out that the tunes on Post Child’s New Age Whatever cassette—out last winter on Eye Vybe Records—were recorded in 1994, I’d believe it. Don’t let the fact that they are playing with some sort of nostalgia gimmick deter you: Post Child writes perfect pop gems that throb with massive hooks, interesting textures, and superglue-sticky melodies. —Luca Cimarusti
