The report by John Conroy, "Shot in the Dark" [November 6], was excellent. I was once a victim of a bad cop who happened to be my ex-husband. I was beaten up on a regular basis and his supervisors did nothing. He did everything from shoving a loaded gun in my mouth to the attempted murder of me and our daughter (the cops called it reckless endangerment). He was finally busted on my warrant, and when they picked him up in our place of business, he had cocaine and heroin there with intent to sell. They had had him under surveillance for drug trafficking.

I am happy to say I don't live in that hell anymore, but I sometimes wonder how many women are out there like me who are still with these assholes that are given a badge and think they are above the law.

Keep up the good work!
