Nathalie Baye as a French schoolteacher who loses faith in her profession and takes a week off to think things over. The film is informed by director Bertrand Tavernier's usual care and moral intelligence, yet the format is too conventional, too constricting, and perhaps too “French” to liberate Tavernier's full creative powers. The focus on a single alienated individual tends to reduce the large issue Tavernier wishes to examine—the failure of modern educational theory—to an overly familiar psychological study. With Gerard Lanvin and Philippe Noiret.
