The Connecticut Yankee of Mark Twain's classic novel becomes a cantankerous English sports fan in Chicago dell'Arte's adaptation. Finding himself transported to King Arthur's medieval realm, a soccer thug named Punch encounters a host of problems unsolvable by booze or brawling. But with the knowledge of centuries on his side, he staves off execution, beats Merlin at his mystical scams, and gains Arthur's royal ear. The show gets tedious at times, but Sam Wootten delivers steady comic relief as the bumbling King Arthur, while a masked Derek Jarvis plays each knight of the round table, with accents to match. The ending is far too lofty for a satirical piece aimed at "porridge-slopping" peasants. --Marissa Oberlander
