Fourteen escaped convicts threaten to ruin Christmas in this screwball comedy, set during the Great Depression. Bent on robbing the local bank—above which single mother Mary Beth and her son Charlie happen to live—the jailbirds are rounded up until only a dandified thief called the Lynx (a delightful Mike Johnson) remains. He smooth talks his way into Mary Beth's apartment with the idea of boring through to the vault below. Writer/director Farrell Walsh supplies some great banter. But the casting is wildly uneven, and the staging feels more than a little slapdash. For seasonally fatigued audiences, the best thing about Chemically Imbalanced Comedy's Christmas show may be that it really has nothing at all to do with Christmas. —Keith Griffith
