It's hard to imagine a more sleekly unsettling home for Anthony Burgess's stage adaptation of his own dystopian novella than the Rotunda, a cylindrical glass-and-steel structure that's squatted unused in downtown Evanston for almost a decade. Director Scott McKinsey makes creatively menacing use of the space in his promenade-style DreamLogic Theatreworks production--and in the process redeems the shortcomings of Burgess's script, which include confused sequencing, clunky dialogue, and, worst of all, the loss of the novel's terrifying yet relatable narrative voice. Mikey Renan is memorable as Alex, a sociopathic teen who's subjected to aversion therapy in prison. The oddly cobbled technology filling the Rotunda adds to its nightmarish quality. --Keith Griffith
