This 1975 musical may have been a huge Broadway hit, but its chief virtues--structural innovation and intimate portraits of a few fascinating characters--tend to get lost in glitzy, Broadway-style productions and touring shows. Not so in Marriott Theatre's intimate confines. Thomas Ryan's bare-bones set (basically an empty stage with mirrors that are lowered at key moments) throws the focus on an ensemble of triple threats whose members turn in nuanced, multi-layered, nearly cliche-free performances. Mark Lococo's production reminds us that A Chorus Line was originally cobbled out of the real-life stories of chorus dancers. --Jack Helbig
