A Chinese Ghost Story III

This solid 1991 supernatural action film by writer Tsui Hark and director Ching Siu-tung is more a remake of the original Chinese Ghost Story (1987) than a sequel. Once again two traveling monks, an elderly Buddhist master and his disciple, witness a savage sword fight, the precursor to a range of violent encounters between mortals and supernatural beings. Joey Wong reprises her role as the sexy ghost Lotus, who is ordered by the evil hermaphroditic Tree Demon to seduce and destroy the young monk, Fong (played with comic alacrity by Tony Leung). Jacky Cheung also returns as Yin, a mercenary whose bottom line for services rendered is taken to hilarious extremes. In Cantonese with subtitles. 104 min.
