Lee Blessing's 2005 drama concerns a middle-aged man and woman who find themselves in an empty house surrounded by a mysterious body of water, unable to remember their names or their relationship to each other. Are they married, or illicit lovers, or total strangers? And who is that young woman who pops in and out—is she their caretaker or their captor? The premise is somewhat contrived. But as the existential mystery unfolds, spinning out multiple possible solutions to the puzzle, the play turns into a surprisingly affecting meditation on memory and identity, thanks in no small part to the engaging and honest performances of Brian Parry and Jan Ellen Graves as the confused couple. —Albert Williams
