Re: “Vagina dentata: Artist Julia Haw bites back

Thank you for your powerful writing Sarah. Truly well written. Power Pussy was mostly VERY positively received. I'm glad you covered the negative/controversial bits as they're probably most exciting. Here's a link to some of the comments from the college students regarding this piece.
Again, thank you - bottom line, this painting is acting as a vehicle for conversation, my main intention.

Re: “Is the gallery show dead?

Michael Genge, your comment was decently harsh. The Reader's crit staff won't "kill galleries," and I'm positive that wasn't the aim here. In fact if you read closely Sarah Nardi is a HUGE advocate of keeping galleries open, in order to keep the purpose of art alive - In Sarah's opinion "a sense of connection, I believe, is something we all need. And art serves as a way to form those connections—to ourselves, to each other, and to the world. We need galleries for that."

From a critical standpoint, perhaps Sarah's posed questions directly after Saltz' quotation were a bit confusing. But I applaud her courage to discuss this contemporarily pertinent article, as Saltz received a lot of attention from the art community and world at large for this recent piece (which I thought was spot on). Nardi brought Chicago voices together - the quotations provided in her article are just a snippet of the FB thread that ensued. As a community, Chicago is refocusing toward elevating once again the public forum and critical discourse. Though I only recently had a chance to meet Nardi, I'm positive this is on par with what she's trying to achieve through her writing.
