Re: “A piece of Lithuania in the heart of Chicago

Recently came across my Grandmother's Red Star Line ticket from Anvers & New York. The date on the ticket is 18 JUN 1906 and shows her age as 18. The family knows that her birthday was April 13, 1888. Agota Balnys is written as the name of the passenger. Having this ticket is priceless. I also found books and I believe a prayer book or bible in a box at my father's home. I hope someday in the future to be able to visit Chicago and the Museum, maybe even research other members of her family. Only a few were discovered in that box, Mike Balnis, Peter Balnis and Martha Balnis. I am sure more will be found. I was very happy to visit my Grandmother often with my Dad as she was only a few minutes away from where we lived in Queens New York. My Grandfather, John Latwaitis has relatives in Chicago also, one in particular, Uncle Chris. Reading about the museum has given me a whole new world to explore just like my Grandmother. Thank you to the founder for giving so much of his time and efforts to everyone who came to the New World. Hope to meet some of the relatives either through visits or email.
