Re: “Hey, charterheads: let's make love, not war!

This is not the time to call a truce. These people are set on dismantling our public education systems and are counting on us to standby and let it happen. The Shock Doctrine is in full effect at CPS - the district is being so fundamentally undermined that people can't help but clamor for change. Education reformers claim to bring the best practices of the business world to education but there are no successful companies that operate with the leadership turmoil and instability that the students and families of CPS have suffered through in the past four years. It is a disgrace. The new CEO is another figurehead to do the mayor's bidding of transforming CPS into a district with a majority non-unionized workforce. And when we get to the point where we are left with nothing but taxpayer-funded, privately-operated charter schools that pick and choose the students they want to educate, it will be a sad state for what is left of the American Dream and the middle class. It is time to hold the "deciders" accountable for they way they are spending your tax dollars to educate children.

Re: “Today's lesson: charters do not outperform unionized schools

Ben, thank you for telling the truth. After all these years, all we have are excuses for why so many charters do no better than nearby neighborhood schools. Follow the money of the school reform movement and it becomes clear that it is a well orchestrated plan to undermine one of the last segments of union power. In their quest for low taxes and few regulations, these card-carrying members of the 0.1% are willing to sacrifice the country's public education system for their greed. It is a disgrace. On election day, we all need to remember and get rid of the politicians supporting policies that de-stabilize our school systems and undermine the middle class.
