I didn't know about real racism until I was on my way to college. My parents protected me from it...that was over 30 years ago. That was when my fathered schooled me. To think, as a child I just thought my father was being mean and didn't want to stop in "certain" neighborhoods.

Imagine my surprise when just last year (2010) an African American comedian wanted to by a million dollar home in Bridgeport and the owner refused to sell to him for the mere color of his skin, nothing more. It's unfortunate, but racism is still alive and kickin' in Chicago.
