Re: “The ultimate guide to Chicago brewery tours

Whiner is the best tour in the city easily, and arguably the best beer in the city.

Re: “Buster Keaton's five best films

What a great night it was. Packed house, an energetic and engaged crowd seeing this movie the way it was meant to be seen. SFSC does it again. Very lucky to have such event in Chicago.

Re: “The Lucas Museum: On soggy ground?

Anyone that makes this fly elsewhere for almost any reason is cool with me. Sometimes I wonder if the sole intent isn't to make Soldier Field less hideous.

Re: “Revenge of the pumpkin beer

Go north, the New Glarus Pumpkin Pie Lust beats them all - brown weiss base - tons of flavor and yet all balanced. - their Staghorn Oktober is also spot-on this year. Wild Onion is good again this year after a few off years. Try the Timmerman's lambic if you want all pumpkin without the spice. Tyranena's Painted Ladies is a good cold-weather darker pumpkin. Rich yet balanced.

Re: “Hungary for you: Going for it at the Gulyas Festival

I miss Epicurean restaurant so bad it hurts. The food, wine and atmosphere were all amazing.

Re: “A short list of reasons we shouldn't want the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum

I don't want it because I'm not interested in people asking me if I've been there because I live in Chicago. There's room for places about stuff I don't like in Chicago - but a Lucas museum seem better suited for....somewhere else please.

Re: “In praise of fat books: The Transylvanian Trilogy

This is a delightful read. So many awesome Hungarian writers now being translated. Banffy's book is fun, important and richly detailed. Big - but it moves fast. Deszo Kosztolanyi, Moricz, Krudy, Karinthy (Sr. and Jr.) and Krasznahorkai are all well worth your time.

Some other good behemoths: Perec - Life - A Users Manual, Rabelais - Gargantua and Pantagruel, Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy and no big great book list should omit Don Quixote.
