Re: “Hot Dog Station

Today I had a hamburger meal, including a burger, fries, and fountain drink. The total was $9.14, tax included. The burger was good, standard fast food, decently sized. The fries were previously frozen and pre-cut, like something from a food-service distributor. The drink was 12 oz with lots of ice. When I went to the counter to ask for a refill, I returned to my seat once I read "sorry, no refills" on the overhead menu. The soda fountain is kept behind the counter.

The place has a lot of kitschy Chicago pre-fab ambiance, seems clean, and has a restroom, though I didn't use it. It's the kind of place that displaced Ravenswood, Ravenswood Manor, North Center, and Lincoln Park white-collar, upper-middle-class parents like to take their children. Whoever owns this place is making enough money to send her or his own children to Harvard, in cash. I will not be back. Hot Dog Station is very poor value for money. Bad value, bad, I say.

For the same burger, plus fresh "cut" fries made in-house, and a "bottomless" soda fountain, head over to Slim's on Montrose Ave. just west of Damen. It even has some of that kitschy ambiance, and the same cleanliness you're paying so much for at Hot Dog Station. Or, for the real local Chicago fast-food experience, go to Susie's Drive Thru, or the Beef & Burger, both also on Montrose Ave., by Pulaski, though you won't get the bottomless soda fountain, just fresh made fries, the same quality sandwich, and more change in your pocket.

@ nurse, above: The review is by J.R. Jones, king of spoilers-without-warning. Don't read ANYthing by J.R. Jones before seeing a movie if you want to enjoy it. The best you can do with a review by J.R. Jones before seeing a movie is check the number of stars. Read him afterwards and enjoy that great scene again, and how the movie ends.
