Bio:
Since I started writing about music for the Reader in 2006 I’ve covered the subcultures of footwork and seapunk, explored the music industry’s 21st-century problems, dug up obscure Chicago history, and somehow ended up pissing off both sides of the Odd Future debate. As a freelancer my work’s appeared in Pitchfork, Vice, NME, XXL, the Utne Reader, Hit it or Quit it, and on the blogs of Fortune and Esquire magazine. In 2011 I wrote How to Analyze the Music of Paul McCartney, an introduction to critical theory aimed at young readers and published as part of ABDO Publishing's Essential Critiques series. Since 2012 I’ve been living in New York City with my wife, our cats, and a growing collection of synthesizers. In my spare time I enjoy clubbing, sci-fi, and making rap beats.
