These three Japanese rocker girls, purveyors of snarly-sweet prom-dress-and-leather surf punk since 1986, haven't released an album of new material since 2002's Teenage Mojo Workout (Bomba), but they're on the road and working a handful of reissues thanks to Quentin Tarantino, who gave them an on-screen cameo and sound-track slot in Kill Bill--Vol. 1 and thus anointed them with the Holy Water of Hipness. The song that worked this miracle is a brainlessly infectious cover of the Rock-a-Teens' 1960 single "Woo Hoo," the lyrics to which consist entirely of those two syllables; you can download it as a cell-phone ringtone now, for the love of Christ. I couldn't talk myself into dropping 30 bucks for the "new" disc on Amazon, but I've got some of the band's 90s releases, and this isn't the kind of music that changes over time. It's hard to tell which tunes are cranked-up covers of American sock-hop standards and which are originals, except by looking for absurd Engrish titles ("Fruit Bubble Love," "Daddy Goes Out Jail"), and they've all got the same taut, agile surf guitar, solid snare drum, and sprightly one-ee-and-a-two-ee cymbal motoring things along. One of my old favorites, from the band's self-titled 1994 LP, is "Oriental Rock"--I'm no semiotician, but Japanese women screaming "Come do the crazy Oriental rock with me!" over gong smashes should've ended the PC debate. The Fevers open. Tuesday 28, 10 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600 or 800-594-8499, $10.
