Blake Edwards's 1979 comedy about sexual fantasies and emotional realities centers on the plight of a middle-aged Hollywood composer (Dudley Moore, who plays the part, perfectly, as a child) obsessed with a vision of his feminine ideal (Bo Derek). Edwards's use of a long lens to define the dimension of erotic daydreams is subtle and innovative, and typical of the film's visual sophistication. Combining the comic precision of Edwards's Pink Panther films with the emotional fullness of his romances (Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Tamarind Seed), 10 is one of his best works, and possibly a masterpiece. 122 min.
