Well, that was weird. And funny. And awesome.

Last night at Riot Fest I saw the reunited Misfits. Something I've only fantasized about. The sort of thing my adolescent dreams were made of. And it was cool. It was really cool.

There were moments in the band's 90-minute set when they fired on all cylinders so perfectly it was almost transcendental. Moments when Jerry Only's bass, crunchy and boxy, sounded exactly how it does on Evilive—they brought me so much joy. There were the times when the crowd's voices soared over the band's in a massive sing-along that made my hair stand on end.

Local Option brand ambassador Alexi Front has been into heavy metal for a long time. In 2001—when he was just 15—he and some friends started the zine Pivotal Rage, writing about all types of extreme music but focusing on death metal from Sweden. There's a new Slayer song!

Posted By on 04.17.15 at 12:00 PM

This will be the first official single off the long-awaited upcoming record, whose production has been bogged down with dramatic personnel shifts that included the departure of founding drummer Dave Lombardo and the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Never ones to throw in the towel, Slayer charged on: Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, who'd been filling in for Hanneman live, permanently took over his position, and Paul Bostaph, who'd played with the band for years before, inherited the drum throne one again. Not only is the new album completed, but the band reports that an entire other record's worth of material is finished as well.

Slayer plays a casino on Saturday

Posted By on 12.02.14 at 12:00 PM

Slayer at the most recent Riot Fest

The band currently billed as Slayer plays the Venue at Horseshoe Casino on Saturday, one night after Styx plays the very same room. No offense to Styx or casinos, both of which I've enjoyed in small doses, but why is Slayer playing a casino in northwest Indiana instead of within city limits?
