There are plenty of shows, films, and concerts happening this week. Here's some of what we recommend:

Mon 5/21: The Marvel phenomenon Black Panther continues running all over town. The Reader's J.R. Jones distinctly praises one of the subplots, involving "the Dora Milaje, the king's security team, who are badass women with shaved heads, neck rings, and flaming-red uniforms." Various times, various locations

Mon 5/21: Australian Courtney Barnett utilizes familiar materials to wax profound about fear, friendship, and love. 8:30 PM, Preston Bradley Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington, sold out, all-ages

Mon 5/21: Wes Anderson's newest, Isle of Dogs, finds the director "returning to stop-motion animation—the form that generated one of his best features, Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)—for this fanciful tale of renegade pooches in Japan," writes the Reader's J.R. Jones. Various times, various locations

Tue 5/22: Quintron’s Weather Warlock and Chicago polymath Bruce Lamont come together for a night of sonic witchcraft and wizardry. 8:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, $12, $10 in advance

Wed 5/23:
Nebraska native Charlie Curtis-Beard shows he’s built for Chicago on Existentialism on Lake Shore Drive. 6 PM, Reggie's Rock Club, 2105 S. State, $10, 17+

Wed 5/23: The Sea and Cake weather major shifts to produce another jewel of glistening guitar pop, Any Day. 7 and 10 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, $20, $18 in advance

Thu 5/24:
A New Attitude: In Tribute to Patti LaBelle, the new show at Black Ensemble Theater, does the soul diva proud. 7:30 PM, Black Ensemble Theater, 4450 N. Clark, 773-769-4451, blackensembletheater.org, $49.50-$65
