There are plenty of shows, films, and concerts happening this weekend. Here's some of what we recommend:


Fri 5/18: On Fever Ray’s Plunge, Karin Dreijer celebrates queer sex and motherhood. 6 and 10 PM, Metro, 3730 N. Clark, $37, 18+

Fri 5/18: The legendary sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey screens at the Music Box in celebration of its 50th anniversary. 7 and 10:30 PM, Music Box, 3733 N. Southport, 773-871-6604, $14

Sat 5/19: Mike Donovan sheds the loose structures of the Peacers to get totally wiggy. The Funs headline. 9 PM, Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, $8

Sat 5/19: Eddy Clearwater remains one of Chicago’s most energetic and celebratory bluesmen. 9:30 PM, Buddy Guy's Legends, 700 S. Wabash, $20

Sun 5/20: The Reader's Leah Pickett writes, "In the topical horror-fantasy [Tigers Are Not Afraid] from Mexican writer-director Issa López, a ten-year-old girl whose mother has been murdered by a local drug cartel joins a street gang of similarly orphaned kids; they launch a resistance campaign, and much to the cartel's disadvantage, their Mexican village teems with as many specters as sicarios." 7 PM, Chicago Filmmakers, 5720 N.
