In theory, it's still a few months till festival season. In practice, that season never ends—the events just get smaller and usually move indoors. The key word there is "usually," because tomorrow the Empty Bottle hosts its fifth annual Music Frozen Dancing, which has succeeded despite the fact that it's clearly batshit to hold a free outdoor music festival in the middle of a Chicago winter. Apparently the Bottle's great reputation as a booker—and the absence of a cover charge—is enough to convince perfectly sane people to volunteer for possible frostbite watching bands playing in the street outside the venue.

Headlining tomorrow's iteration are Oh Sees, whose recent Memory of a Cut Off Head Peter Margasak has described in these pages as "a charming record that has an appealing psych-folk veneer that borders on glam." The openers include two more out-of-towners, dark Detroit synth duo Adult. and Brooklyn postpunk band B Boys, and of course a couple locals: ferocious hardcore band C.H.E.W., one of the city's best-kept secrets, play first, followed by footwork producer DJ Taye, whose forthcoming Still Trippin' should make him the Teklife collective's next star. Lumpen Radio DJs will spin inside the Bottle all day, so if you lose the sensation in your toes you can warm up in the club without feeling like you're missing too much.

Neighboring Bite Cafe will sell the champion chili from last weekend's Chili-Synth Cook Off outside, with all proceeds going to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. (The festival will also donate a portion of its total revenue, much of which comes from selling beer.) Music Frozen Dancing starts at 1 PM.
