Yep, it's snowing and cold again, but there's plenty to do this week. Indoors even! Here's some of what we recommend:

Mon 1/29
: Actor Michael Shannon visits the DePaul University Student Center (2250 N. Sheffield Ave.) to talk about his work onstage, on television, and on the big screen. But will Shannon dust off his amazing Iggy Pop impression again? Doubtful. 6-9 PM, Free

Mon 1/29-Thu 2/1: Irish animator Nora Twomey strikes out into new territory with her solo feature film debut, The Breadwinner, a children's adventure about life in Afghanistan under the Taliban. You can see this moving animated feature this week at Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N. State St.) Various times

Tue 1/30: Harold Washington Library (400 S. State) welcomes essayist and journalist Anne Elizabeth Moore to read from her best-selling book Body Horror: Capitalism, Fear, Misogyny, Jokes a series of essays concerning topics like the American healthcare system and Moore's own struggle with autoimmune disorders. 6 PM

Tue 1/30-Fri 2/2: Stand-up comic John Mulaney, who recently appeared on Broadway with Nick Kroll in Oh, Hello, stops in his hometown (he was raised in Lincoln Park) to perform at the Chicago Theatre (175 N. State) as part of his Kid Gorgeous tour. 1/30-2/3: Tue-Sat 7 PM; also Thu-Fri 10 PM

Wed 1/31: PowerPoint presentations accompany the stand-up stylings of Chicago's alt-comics at Slide Show at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia). Hosted by Luke Taylor, who's performed in Helltrap Nightmare and with the Shrimp Boys. 9 PM, $7

Wed 1/31: Sleigh Bells—the world's first great shred-pop standard-bearers—return to the Metro (3730 N. Clark). The Reader's Kevin Warwick writes that while the duo's sound has changed over the years "what’s remained unchanged is that the band is still a commanding force onstage." 8 PM, $26

: She the People: Girlfriends’ Guide to Sisters Doing It for Themselves at Up Comedy Club (230 W. North) is "90 minutes of eviscerating the patriarchy and a laugh-out-loud wake-up call that's necessary viewing for women and men alike," writes Reader critic Marissa Oberlander. 8 PM, $26-$36
