Give thanks, stuff yourself, and then venture out for a break from the fam. Here are the Thanksgiving activities we recommend:

Where to eat

Bistronomic Once again, Green City Market has prepared a feast worthy of your thanks. Choose one item from each of three courses—like yukon potato gnocchi, a traditional turkey leg with stuffing, and chocolate hazelnut bars. Noon-11:30 PM, 840 N. Wabash, bistronomic.net, $65.

The Boarding House Diners looking for venison with tart truffle mushrooms or porterhouse pork will have to wait until after Turkey Day. Boarding House's Thanksgiving prix-fixe includes sourdough stuffing and fall squash garnished with black quinoa and a maple and sherry vinaigrette. 5-11 PM, 720 N. Wells, boardinghousechicago.com, $65.

Cherry Circle Room Chef Pete Coenen offers a family-style prix-fixe dinner complete with all the fixin's, with the option to pair each course with a glass of wine or a cocktail. 1-9 PM, 12 S. Michigan, cherrycircleroom.com, $80.

Furious Spoon In the spirit of giving, this Pilsen location of the ramen shop will be donating Thanksgiving dinners for those in need from 11 AM-3:30 PM. Additionally, the restaurant will be donating all its proceeds to a local charity yet to be named. 11 AM-3:30 PM, 1316 W. 18th, furiousramen.com, various prices.

Lockwood Diners have two chances to enjoy Thanksgiving. First comes a breakfast buffet, which gives diners a primo spot to watch the city's Thanksgiving Parade. For Lunch, another buffet, with autumn greens, clove-studded ham, and of course turkey, this one roasted in maple honey molasses. Breakfast 6:30 AM-noon; lunch 11 AM-4 PM. 17 E. Monroe, lockwoodrestaurant.com, breakfast $25, $12 children six-12; lunch $80, $70 seniors, $50 children three-12.

Where to shop

Christkindlmarket This year, Chicago's annual Daley Plaza market expands from two locations (the other in Naperville) to three, adding The Park at Wrigley (3637 N. Clark)—more places to pick up local wares and scarf down German sausages. 11 AM-4 PM, Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington, christkindlmarket.com, free.

Toys 'R' Us The company is bankrupt and expected to close stores after the holiday, but it's going out in a blaze of glory over this holiday weekend. At 5 PM, the store opens and won't close for 30 hours, meaning drunken impulse purchases will take the form of G.I. Joe action figures. 5 PM-Fri 11 PM, 3300 N. Western, toysrus.com.

Above & Beyond

Thanksgiving Parade With more than 5,000 participants, 2017's parade promises to be one of the biggest yet. Check out the floats, bands, as well as Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear, and Fred Flinstone in giant balloon form. 8-11 AM, State between Randolph and Congress, chicagofestivals.org.

Turkey Trot The annual 5K race is sold out, but there are opportunities to volunteer or hang out in the "Turkey Tailgate Zone," where families can turkey bowl and cheer for the winners of the run. 7 AM-noon, Diversey Harbor, 2781 N. Lake Shore, turkeytrotchicago.com.
