The Noir City: Chicago 9 film festival continues at the Music Box, the Chicago Fringe Festival kicks off, and much more is happening this week. Here's some of what we recommend:

Mon 8/28: At Yas Queen!, female-identifying comedians choose from the full spectrum of comedy (stand-up, improv, sketch) and are given the freedom to perform whatever inspires them as a woman at the Playground Theater (3209 N. Halsted). The show donates its entire proceeds to Planned Parenthood. 8 PM, $10

Mon 8/28: The Reader's Leor Galil writes of rapper Joseph Chilliams, who plays tonight at Schubas (3159 N. Southport): "In a recent interview with Chicago culture and news site These Days, rapper and Pivot Gang cofounder Joseph Chilliams discussed an epiphany he'd had about making music while watching a Louis C.K. special: 'I realized that as long as it's entertaining, it can be about absolutely anything.' Fortunately, he also understands the value of grounding his entertaining self-expression with sincerity and personality." 7 PM, $10 in advance, $13 at the door

Tue 8/29:
Artist Kate McQuillen's latest exhibit, "Meet Me on the Astral Plane," is inspired by the plane itself, long thought to be home to the stars and planets, serving as a link between realms. She uses this inspiration to create smooth, celestial, and seemingly brushless paintings, on display at Goldfinch (319 N. Albany). By appointment, free

Tue 8/29:
It's closing night for the comedy collective Potential Boyfriends' Ten Dollar Comedy, a weekly hodgepodge of sketch, improv, and stand-up at Second City (230 W. North). (Hey, gotta cover all the comedic bases.) Performers include Peter Corey, Pat Ivansek, and Nick Johnson. 8:30 PM, $10

Wed 8/30:
Game of Thrones spoilers abound when the hosts of WBEZ's Nerdette and Wait Wait . . . Don't Tell Me! put aside their differences and unite for the fight beyond the wall—which, in this case, is the cozy confines of their studios. Greta Johnsen, Tricia Bobeda, and Peter Sagal take over DANK Haus (4740 N. Western), decorated to resemble a hallowed medieval hall, for a Game of Thrones wrap party, breaking down the past season and hyping up the final one to come. You'll know everything, Jon Snow. 7-9 PM, sold out

Wed 8/30: The Chicago Fringe Festival, kicking off tonight and running through September 10, invites 50 local, national, and international innovative performing arts acts, complete with workshops and events focusing on dance, theater, music, and more. For our continuing coverage of the festival, check out chicagoreader.com. Various times, various prices

Thu 8/31: The shadowy, scandalous, and seductive films in the noir genre are celebrated at the Music Box’s (3733 N. Southport) annual Noir City: Chicago 9 continues this week. On this, the final night, the festival screens The Asphalt Jungle (1950) and Quiet Please: Murder (1942) Various times, $15
