There's plenty to do this weekend (and that ain't no April Fools' Day joke). Here's some of what we recommend:

Fri 3/31: The Transgender Day of Visibility showcase at the Center on Halsted (3656 N. Halsted) features paintings, clothing, performance art, photography, and more created by local trans artists. 6-9 PM

During this special Friday-night edition of First Tuesdays With Mick and Ben at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia), the Reader's Ben Joravsky and the Sun-Times's Mick Dumke talk with congressmen Danny K. Davis and Luis Gutierrez about congressional resistance in the Trump era. 6:30 PM

Fri 3/31:
Experimental music group Xiu Xiu plays the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western) tonight. Austin Brown writes, "Despite developing a four-on-the-floor rhythmic backbone for their recent Forget (Polyvinyl), these monarchs of bloodletting through experimental music leave no reason to believe they'll pivot into the warm embrace of synthpop . . . It's still not pop, but it is death disco of a sort—and it sounds good on them." 9 PM. See the week's other recommended shows.
