In 2014, Absolutely Not singer-guitarist Donnie Moore and his sister and bandmate, keyboardist Madison Moore, founded Glitter Creeps as a monthly punk-rock LGBTQ DJ night—an alternative to "typical" gay nights, as Donnie explained to me in last year's Best of Chicago issue. Over the past two years Glitter Creeps has grown by leaps and bounds, evolving into a monthly live-music series at the Empty Bottle featuring LGBTQ-friendly bands from Chicago and all over the world.

Glitter Creeps celebrates its second anniversary on Wednesday, November 16, with a show headlined by masked garage-rock lagomorph Nobunny, whose over-the-top, near-nude stage antics perfectly embody the event's spirt of positivity. Donnie says he couldn't think of a better act for the party: "He's so open, androgynous, fun, and very supportive of the LGBTQ community."

In reaction to Tuesday night's election results, Donnie has created a run of "Make America Gay Again" T-shirts that will be sold exclusively at Wednesday's show. All proceeds from the shirts will be donated to El Rescate, a transitional living program in Humboldt Park that provides safe, identity-affirming housing for homeless LGBTQ and HIV-positive youth. "A gay Latin person is literally Trump's nightmare," Donnie explains, adding some levity to a heavy topic. "So it's perf."

Over the past two years, 82 acts have graced the stage for Glitter Creeps—including big names such as Ty Segall's Goggs, Royal Headache from Australia, and Fred and Toody Cole of Dead Moon—and none has ever played twice. The series shows no signs of slowing down, and Donnie knows that his message of openness and acceptance just got way more necessary: "Especially in these current times when our country is led by a homophobic, woman-hating, racist egomaniac, events like Glitter Creeps are more important and crucial than ever."
Proud Parents and Bev Rage & the Drinks open Wednesday's show for Nobunny, and Lucy Stoole emcees the evening. Things kick off at 9 PM, and admission is $10.

Correction: This post has been updated to name both of Glitter Creeps' founders.
