  • Weather: The weather gets cooler

After two days in the 60s, the weather will get a bit colder, with a high of 50 and a low of 39. It will be cloudy, and some showers are expected in the morning. [AccuWeather]

  • A shooting happened about every 58 minutes from Tuesday through early Wednesday

Chicago's bloody 2016 continued Tuesday and Wednesday when 21 people were shot during a 20-hour period. Two people were killed and 19 were wounded in shootings spread all over the city, from River North to West Town to Gresham. [Tribune]

  • Morningstar CEO donates $35 million to University of Chicago for urban issues institute

The University of Chicago got a huge donation from alumnus Joe Mansueto to create the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation. The institute's purpose will be to analyze "social, natural, and computational sciences and the humanities to enhance the University's strengths in urban scholarship and education," the school said in a statement. It's not the first time the Morningstar founder has made a big gift to his alma mater: he also gave $25 million for the Mansueto Library on the Hyde Park campus. [ABC7 Chicago]

  • Director formerly known as Andy Wachowski comes out as transgender

When the Chicago-based Wachowski filmmaking duo created and directed The Matrix back in 1999, they were known as the Wachowski brothers, but now they're the Wachowski sisters. Forty-eight-year-old Lilly Wachowski, formerly known as Andy, announced Tuesday that she is a transgender woman after being approached by the London-based Daily Mail. Her sister Lana, 50, transitioned in 2012. [Windy City Times]

  • NHL clears Patrick Kane in sexual assault investigation

A review by the National Hockey League found that the sexual assault allegations against Blackhawks star were "unfounded." He will not face any disciplinary action. The allegations came to light in August, but the district attorney in Erie County, New York, never pressed charges against Kane. [ESPN]

  • Kasich hits the suburbs for town hall meetings, stays above the GOP fray

Ohio governor and GOP presidential candidate John Kasich took his message to voters in the Chicago suburbs Wednesday. Hundreds of people gathered at town hall meetings in Lisle and Palatine to hear him discuss his policy proposals and commitment to a positive message in an extremely divisive Republican primary.
