  • What's up with these guys? Brown and Korecki will dish on Rauner and Rahm at the Hideout Tuesday.

To get to the bottom of Governor Rauner's feud with Mayor Rahm, Mick Dumke and I have invited Steve Brown and Natasha Korecki to join us at the Hideout Tuesday night.

Actually, one thing has nothing to with the other. I just intended to write a bit about next week's First Tuesdays show, but couldn't stop from mentioning the ongoing spat between Rahm and Rauner, my two favorite plutocrats.

Brown and Korecki should have some interesting insights to offer about Rahm/Rauner—and everything else under the sun in lllinois politics. They probably know as much—if not more—about politics in this state than anyone not named Madigan.

Brown's been house speaker Michael Madigan's spokesman since 1984. And since Madigan rarely talks to reporters, Brown's the go-to guy for comments. As such, he's the voice on the other end of the phone when reporters come a-calling about budget battles, conflicts of interest, legislative maneuvers, political gossip, scandals, and anything else that may bubble to the surface in our wonderful state. Usually, he offers up his comments with an acerbic wisecrack or two.

So having him on stage is almost as good as having the speaker at the Hideout.

We're still working on that.

He's also a Saint Louis Cardinals fan. So look for Mick to show up wearing his Cubs hat.

Korecki, who writes about politics for Politico, has also been known to wisecrack, especially in her daily post, Illinois Playbook. Before going to Politico, she covered politics and the federal courthouse for the Sun-Times. She also wrote Only in Chicago: How the Rod Blagojevich Scandal Engulfed Illinois and Enthralled the Nation.

Ah yes, Blago. You know, I'm almost starting to miss the big fella.

First Tuesdays with Mick & Ben 6:30 PM 11/3 at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, $5.
