Every year the Association of Alternative Newsmedia gathers to honor the best work put out by alt-weeklies across the country, and at this weekend's convention, well, the Reader cleaned up nicely.

So while we take a moment to toot our own horn, there's no better time for you to catch up on our award-winning stories from the past year.

Mike Sula's "What Happens When All-Star Chefs Get In Bed With Big Food?" won first place for food writing.

Steve Bogira's "In Chicago's War Zones, the Tragedy Extends Beyond the Kids Who Die" won second place for long-form news story.

Ben Joravsky's columns won second place for political columns.

Max Blau's "Jason Molina's Long Dark Blues" won second place for arts feature.

The Bar Issue won second place for special section.

The People Issue won second place for multimedia feature.
