A few years ago local singer-songwriter Matthew McGarry caught my ear with his debut album, Slow Cloud, which he released under the name Upholstery & Carpet Cleaning. I liked the album so much I named it one of the five best overlooked local releases for the Reader's 2012 Year in Review. On Friday McGarry released his second full-length, and I fear this new album, Fuga Azzurri, may also get overlooked, largely because of a name change—McGarry dropped "Upholstery & Carpet Cleaning" in favor of the name Bossa IV. Had McGarry not given me the heads-up I might've missed Fuga Azzurri myself, and I'm glad he dropped me a line about it—the album's got all the well-worn indie rock I'd taken to on Slow Cloud. On "Too Many Voices" McGarry rolls out a delicate guitar melody and gentle pitter-patter percussion that evoke a warm afternoon spent relaxing underneath the shade of a tree; he slowly cranks up the volume without disturbing the vibe. It's a good way to kick off the afternoon, and it's today's 12 O'Clock Track—listen to it below.
