Looking for something to do today? Agenda's got you covered.

The Chicago International Film Festival is officially 50 years old, and in addition to the regular slate of new films from the world's best directors—Olivier Assayas, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Matías Piñeiro, and the Dardenne brothers among them—CIFF programmers are bringing back some favorites from years past, including Krzysztof Zanussi's Family Life. This evening's opening-night gala features a screening of Liv Ullmann's latest as director, Miss Julie, starring Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell.

For 20 years the Midwest Pesticide Action Center has made it a mission to protect the region from the dangers of pesticides, and it's celebrating its environmental endeavors at the Garden Gala. Enjoy bites from sustainable eateries like Chop Shop, specialty Letherbee farm-to-glass cocktails, and music from Golden Horse Ranch Band and Slo 'Mo's DJ Tess, all at the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Houston pianist Helen Sung plays at the Jazz Showcase tonight. In Soundboard Peter Margasak writes, "On her moody tune 'Hidden' she plays Fender Rhodes, emitting a strong 70s vibe, and her working band is supplemented by the lush melodicism of violinist Regina Carter, while a faithful spin through Chick Corea's 'Armando's Rhumba' shows off her facility with Afro-Cuban forms, including some delightfully fluid clarinet soloing by Paquito D'Rivera."
