Banks, the Los Angeles-based songwriter and electro-pop singer, performs at the Metro in support of her album Goddess. "On the album's opener, 'Brain,' Banks snaps from a murmur to a belt, switching from down-tempo trip-hop creeper to full-blown pop ballad without missing a beat," writes Reader contributor Sasha Geffen. One of our Fall Arts Best Bets for Music.

The Poetry Foundation hosts "Words or Music?," a discussion of art and form between soprano Renée Fleming and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mark Strand.

The city's favorite 60s-inspired supergroup, Girl Group Chicago, kicks off a monthlong Hideout residency with Girl Group Chicago's Swingin' 60s Variety Hour. Channeling the spirit of old standbys like The Carol Burnett Show, the night features performances from Le Piège à Filles, Plucky Rosenthal, and the Revelettes.
