With the start of a new school year just around the corner, Mick Dumke and I will be hosting three of the big guns of education reporting on our August 5 show at the Hideout.

That would be the incomparable Lauren FitzPatrick of the Sun-Times, Sarah Karp of Catalyst, and Linda Lutton of WBEZ.

Take a bow, ladies!

Nobody—not even Mayor Rahm—knows more about education in Chicago than these three. They've been covering this stuff for years and they pull no punches.

It will be hard to top last month's extravaganza featuring Aldermen Danny Solis and Rick Munoz. But if you really want to know what's going on in with our schools, then you have to come to the show!

By the way, what you might not know about the Big Three is that they have a secondary specialty in correcting my mistakes.

This is true.

Linda once pointed out that I messed up my explanation of how a local school council (LSC) election works.

And Lauren one corrected me for misspelling her last name. I, in turn, told her that it's really weird to just randomly stick a big ol' capital P in the middle of a name. You know—like it was her fault I screwed up.

And Sarah—well, I don't think she's corrected any of my mistakes. Though I may have forgotten. If so, she can correct me at the Hideout.

In my defense, with all the mistakes I've made, at least I never voted for mayors Daley or Rahm.

No, Chicago—that was your mistake!

Speaking of Mayor Rahm—man, there's so much to talk about in regards to his school policies.

Linda can discuss her latest scoop on the sorting process in admission practices. (By the way, if you want to hear even more from Linda, check this out).

And Sarah can talk about that CPS principal-training boondoggle, which diverted a desperately needed $20 million from the schools.

And Lauren can update us on the central office furniture budget, speaking of money wasters.

And all three can offer insights into the latest CPS budget, as the mayor looks for new and creative ways to free up money to get more press aides on the payroll.

Can't have too many of those!

I'm sorry. I realize I'm being way too hard on our mayor—again.

So Mick's job will be to mention all the wonderful things Mayor E has done for our city. Good luck with that, Mick!

The show starts at 6:30 PM. It's $5 at the door. And the Hideout is located at 1354 W. Wabansia.

See you August 5.
