Take a gander at something visually stimulating this weekend. Here's what's going down in visual arts.

Friday 2/21

Bike Winter Art Show at Ancien Get a taste of spring at this show featuring bike-inspired art, with pieces including paintings and constructions made from bike tubes. Ancien, a forthcoming bike shop and cafe, hosts.

Winter Open House at Chicago Cultural Center Spend some time admiring Preston Bradley Hall and its Tiffany dome, and while you're at it, take in a full day of music and theater and a couple of art openings. Performers include the Regulators, DJ Earl, and LiveWire Chicago Theatre.

John Macfarlane at Maya Polsky Gallery Drawings on paper by the costume designer, including work from his recent and future contributions to Lyric Opera Chicago. Reception 5-7:30 PM.

Saturday 2/22

"Strange Bedfellows" at Columbia College Chicago, Averill and Bernard Leviton A+D Gallery Your last chance to view this traveling collection of collaborative work exploring queer art. Read Yasmin Nair's write-up here.

Sunday 2/23

"Ruth Gruber: Photojournalist" at Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center This exhibition contains photographs by Ruth Gruber, whose work includes images from the ship, Exodus, which attempted to land in Palestine with Jewish refugees after World War II. Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber screens Sunday and is followed by a Skype Q+A with the lady herself. Read Aimee Levitt's write-up on the exhibit here.

"Our Work: Modern Jobs—Ancient Origins" at the Oriental Institute The closing day of an exhibit featuring photos of modern-day workers posing with ancient relics from their trades. Read Aimee Levitt's write-up here.
