Barrel of Monkeys collaborated with local elementary school students to create a special holiday edition of their long-running series That's Weird, Grandma. "Many of the stories are as smart as they are bizarre," writes Suzanne Scanlon. "The Barrel team keeps the students' writing in the foreground." Tonight's the last chance to catch the holiday show at the Neo-Futurarium.

Hardcore-metal group the Ox King performs tonight as part of the Empty Bottle's free music Mondays. Kevin Warwick writes in Soundboard, "David Klingenberg's vocals combine the usual spitting-and-screaming style with slurring 80s punk attitude, and in the breakdowns the sludgy grooves are offset by crescendos of postrock-like guitar that hover in the background."

The monthlong Extinct Entities festival, which explores the history of Chicago-based art collectives and spaces, continues tonight with screenings from the informal film group the Logan Square Rhinos. Work by Chuck Kleinhans, JoAnn Elam, Dan Curry, and more will be shown at Links Hall.
