No Fun cover by Taiwanese artist Sorry Mama
In the spring of 2011 former Reader intern Robyn Chang moved to Taiwan to work for Groupon, quit her job, and joined a couple bands. When seven groups from Taiwan flew to Austin to play SXSW last year, Chang wrote about her experience in the Taipei scene in a fantastic Reader post that's also a pretty convincing case for booking a flight to the tropical island just southeast of China. But if you can't make it to a rock show in the capital of Taiwan just yet, Chang's got you covered: she recently teamed up with Kelley Scott to launch Gary Records, a local label dedicated to releasing music by acts from around the globe, and its first release is a split seven-inch that features Taipei garage group Forests.

Chang befriended Forests guitarist-vocalist Jon Du when she lived in Taipei, and she recently passed along the group's forthcoming No Fun, which lives up to the description the band gave Chang for her Reader piece: "Sweater punk? Psychedelic surf rock? Garage Woo Woo Woo." I was so giddy listening to the album I jumped at the chance to stream it on our site, and Forests gave us the thumbs-up. No Fun will be available to download from Forests' Bandcamp page Monday, and the group is plotting a U.S. tour. Until then take a listen to the Reader's exclusive stream of No Fun below, and if you like what you hear, pick up the band's split with Australia's White Lodge from Gary Records' website or at Bric-a-Brac Records.

Update: The premiere has come and gone, but you can still listen to No Fun via Bandcamp.
